Where are the Lost 10 Tribes of Israel?
The 10 tribes of Israel, occupants of the Northern Kingdom of Israel, were conquered by the Assyrians in 722 B.C. Per the Assyrian conquest and deportation policy, slightly less than half of the 10 tribes of Israel, were deported north in the Assyrian Empire.
They were confined together to prevent them from leaving Assyria and returning to their homeland.
Per Christian and LDS scripture, the lost 10 tribes of Israel are together in an area of remoteness and seclusion. (Matthew 15:24; Matthew 10:5-6; Revelation 7:4; Revelation 14:1; 3 Nephi 15:15; 17:4; D&C 77:11)
Jeremiah prophesied that Jesus Christ will bring the tribes of Israel back from the land of the north. (Jeremiah 16:14-15)
The Apocrypha also has a most interesting passage about this people, reporting that they were led and assisted by God through their escape, as they traveled 1 1/2 years to Arzareth. (Apocrypha 2 Esdras: 40-45)
40 these are the ten tribes which were led away from their own land into captivity in the days of King Hoshea, whom Shalmaneser the king of the Assyrians led captive; he took them across the river, and they were taken into another land.
41 But they formed this plan for themselves, that they would leave the multitude of the nations and go to a more distant region, where mankind had never lived.
42 that there at least they might keep their statutes which they had not kept in their own land.
43 And they went in by the narrow passages of the Euphrates river.
44 For at that time the Most High performed signs for them, and stopped the channels of the river until they had passed over.
45 Through that region there was a long way to go, a journey of a year and a half; and that country is called Arzareth.
Jesus Christ visited the lost tribes of Israel as a separate and distinct body of people, immediately after he visited the people of the Americas, following his crucifixion. (3 Nephi 17:4)
And their return will be in spectacular fashion. When the prophets in the North countries hear the voice of Jesus Christ, they will stay themselves no longer. They will issue a command to cause ice to flow down at their presence, followed by a highway that will be raised up in order to provide safe passage for the return of the tribes of Israel. (D&C 133:26-27)
In summary, there are references to support the belief that they are together and will someday return from the north countries to modern society. (See Deuteronomy 4:27; 28: 64; Jeremiah 16:14-15; 31:8; Ezekiel 11:15-17; 1 Nephi 22:3-4; 19:16; 3 Nephi 5:23-24; 21:26-29; D&C 110:11; 133:26-32.)
Where are the Lost 10 Tribes of Israel? Only the Lord knows but they do exist and will someday return to modern society. The novel "A Light Beyond the Mountains" portrays a fictional story but also represents a scenario which not only suggests where they may be today, but also explains the 4 great floods: the creation, Noah, Peleg, and in the future when the Lost 10 Tribes of Israel return.
